Eternity Between Space and Time: From Consciousness to the Cosmos
According to Religion News Service, on September 6, a group of theologians and physicists talked about their new book of essays, “Eternity Between Space and Time: From Consciousness to the Cosmos,” Contributors include leading theologians such as Kurt Appel, the Rev. Andrea Toniolo, and physicists, including Nobel Prize winners Roger Penrose and Gerard ’t Hooft, the founding father of string theory, Gabriele Veneziano, and the creator of the first microprocessor, Federico Faggin.
“The idea of putting together a cross-disciplinary reflection on space and time was hatched at a conference on eternity at Italy’s prestigious University of Padua in May 2022. The lively discussions, part of a program on “death studies and End of Life,” inspired a collaboration aimed at tying together seemingly disparate fields of human knowledge to find common truths and challenges.”
The book represents the findings of the Vatican Observatory’s May 2022 conference.
Questions about God and consciousness are addressed alongside quantum theory, black holes, cosmic inflation, and the Big Bang and string theory, considering the contributions of neuroscience and artificial intelligence.
